A very important part in treating cancer is therapy of cancer radiation. Nearly half of all cancer patients undergoing treatment with the cancer radiation. Therefore important to understand how cancer radiation is used, how to successfully deal with them, and what side effects
What is radiation and how to help
Radiation is the energy carried by the flow of particles or waves. This can alter the molecular cell and molecular gene. so, radiation can damage the genes of cancer cells, inhibit the division and growth. Therefore cancer radiation therapy is used to shrink cancerous tumors in the body and destroy cancer.
In active cells and rapidly dividing, cancer radiation may work better than in the cells that are inactive or slow dividing. Radiation therapy kills cancer cells of breast cancer but also affects normal cells that causes side effects. So every patient who underwent therapy of cancer radiation will involve a balance between destroying healthy cells and cancer cells.
to undergo cancer radiation therapy takes many weeks before normal cells and sometimes they die before the treatment ends.
Initially believed to cancer radiation therapy can not be given to certain areas, but recent studies and research that in some cases of cancer radiation therapy treatment can be given
Type of cancer radiation:
1. ionizing radiation that can destroy and kill cancer cells also alter genes to stop cancer cell growth, consists of two types of photons (gamma and x-rays) and parikel radiation (neutrons, protons, electrons, alpha and beta particles)
The more radiation energy is, the more deeply it can penetrate jaringan.Tepat type of radiation selected by a "radiation oncologist."
2. Non-ionizing radiation include radio waves, microwaves, and light waves are not thinking about a lot of energy and can not ionize the cancer cells.
Common sources of treatment of cancer radiation are:
High-energy photons: this comes from sources such as cobalt, cesium, etc. accelerator is the most commonly used.
Particle beam: produced by the LINAC (linear accelerator), known also as the electron beam, used for cancerous tumors near the surface.
Proton beam: a new form of particle beam radiation. Protons penetrate and kill cancer cells that passed them without causing much damage to normal tissue.
Neutron beams: use for the head, neck, and prostate. It helps when other cancer radiation therapy does not work.
Extreme fatigue, skin damage and discoloration, throat and mouth problems are few major side effects of cancer radiation. When certain regions such as the lungs, the brain is treated, then the side effects can vary such as nausea, vomiting and memory loss.
